about the Ranch
In 1994 we moved from the Chicago area to Hastings mesa near Telluride,
Colorado. We built a solar home and began living an off-the-grid lifestyle. We
looked into different livestock options to maintain agricultural status. After
attending buyer's seminars and the AOBA national convention in Ruidoso, New
Mexico, we decided to raise alpacas.
We named our ranch after a mountain peak two miles away that we see through
our kitchen window.
We began with three females. We have
enjoyed the challenges of learning how to take
care of these wonderful animals as we built our
herd. We presently have twenty-seven alpacas
and board eight more. We want to maintain a
herd size of twenty to twenty-five alpacas.
This would allow personal attention to each
alpaca in our herd.
We have selectively bred to some of the finest herdsires in the United States;
Ameripaca's Achilles, Penumbra, Sinopsis Nocturna 527, Crescent Moon's Rayo
Del Sol, Patagonia's Compadre, Lanark's Silver Charm, Xanadu 'Round Midnight
and others. We are pleased to see each generation improve in quality. It is very
exciting to see what each birth brings us.
